Ornamentation practice
of the Bellini period

We have provided our soloists with the following documents as inspiration for the ornamentation practice of the Bellini period.

1. the section “On the art of ornamenting a melody” from the vocal school of Louis Lablache (1794-1858) in the French original and in a German translation. The musical examples can only be found in the French version!

2. the original ornaments of the part of Norma by two singers who were also pupils of Giuditta Pasta, who sang the role of Norma at the first performance in 1831. They are Laure Cinti-Damoreau (1801-1863) and Adelaide Kemble (1815-1879).
